The Palo Alto Weekly ran a nice article about the Stanford club players who competed this past weekend at the NCAA Championships.
We were thrilled to see so many players in the water: Megan Burmeister and Camy Sullivan helped UCLA win its fourth straight NCAA title; Kelly Eaton, Kim Krueger and Jenna Gunderson played a key role in Stanford’s third place finish; and Michigan co-captain Kelsey Haley’s Wolverines finished sixth.
All of these players started with the Stanford club as 14-unders. Congrats on a great college season!
From USA Water Polo – The Conduct of Championships, which governs USA Water Polo’s national championship events, has been revised in anticipation of the 2008 competition season and is attached. Please note the change which now states: “Members must affiliate with club by May 15 for the summer season. This helps build club loyalty while eliminating “club hopping.”
This rule applies for all players interested in competiing in Nationals and Junior Olympics. Please go online today to usawaterpolo.org and verify your club membership as Stanford Water Polo Foundation. Don’t miss JO’s because your club is incorrect.Â
Click the calendar link above to keep up to date and see a month-long view of what is up and coming for the Stanford club.
The summer tournament and event dates are on the calendar.
Note: the 3rd Annual Bake-Off will be held in conjunction with the Blastoff to Beijing on July 10 when the USA and Australian Olympic teams face off in Avery Stadium.
Molly & Michael Hayes started with our age group team nearly 10 years ago and are now seniors at Cal. Molly has played with Stanford in the summer seasons while in college, helping the team to several national titles. She also coaches with us in the summer.
Michael helped Cal with the NCAA title in 2006 and 2007.
Stanford University’s Kelly Eaton has earned MPSF Player of the Week honors after helping the Cardinal defeat Cal State Northridge Friday and No. 3 USC on Saturday. She had four goals against the Women of Troy.
Kelly started playing water polo in the club’s beginner session (equivalent to the current micros program) and has helped the club to three national championships and numerous top five finishes at JOs, 20-under nationals and senior nationals.
Congrats Kelly!

At the USA Water Polo Annual Meeting in January, Ted Minnis and Travis Wyckoff were honored as National Coaches of the Year.
Both coaches were nominated by the Pacific Zone for these awards.
Ted was named National Development Coach of the Year and Travis the National Volunteer Coach of the Year. Congrats to these coaches for their distinction and their devotion to the sport and our club!
